Clean. Reliable. Does the job.
The "lights out missionary" of food. Spotless kitchen, decent grub. Won't blow your mind, won't disappoint.
Akira is a Japanese restaurant inside Japan House, and it's definitely cozy with high-quality sushi. The omakase is a steal at £105, but don’t expect any funky fish. Staff are polite and attentive, but some diners felt the food was more style than substance, especially with the bento boxes lacking oomph. Still, it's an enjoyable place if you're in the area and craving sushi-grade fish.
However, the atmosphere might feel a bit stark, and you could end up paying a pretty penny for a meal that leaves you wanting more. Be warned about the sashimi; it's a bit of a gamble – some have loved it, while one unlucky diner got scraps instead of the good stuff. So, if you're in the mood for a sushi adventure, go for it, just don’t expect to be blown away.
"Akira is an exception to this - high quality ingredients, excellent sushi and sashimi"
"Authentic, fresh, delicious. The staff is super attentive, friendly and polite."
"Akira is more than just a restaurant; it's a celebration of Japanese culture and craftsmanship."
